Vermont Plumbing License

If you want to practice plumbing legally in Vermont, you must first obtain a Vermont plumbing license. It proves your professionalism in this field and will help you get a job easier and faster.

Appliance

All the applicants who are more than 18 years old and are US residents can apply for the permit. They should have at least a high school diploma or GED (a document that is equivalent to the above-mentioned diploma).

The applicants should fit for the work both physically and mentally. They can not have been discharged from the military service dishonorably or with illegal conditions. And, another important point is that they have to pass a drug test.

Requirements

The requirements that you must meet to get a VT plumbing license are:

• Obtaining a Certificate of Completion that the Vermont State Apprenticeship Council issues
• Showing a completed apprenticeship or a certified statement of licensure from another region (make sure that it is acceptable in the region)
• Holding a document that shows successful completion of the instruction, experience, or training in or out of the region (should include at least 12,000 hours)

After making sure that you meet all the following steps, you should pass a test and pay the required fees.

Vermont plumbing license exam

If the Board accepted you after receiving your application then you will be added to the database of the International Code Council (ICC). So, now you are eligible to take an assessment. You will get a package by mail including the necessary information within one week.

During the examination, each applicant will receive a package that includes all the questions related to plumbing. The applicant must complete the questionnaire with a pen or pencil, then place it in an envelope and submit it to the Board. No examination material, question, or topic is allowed to be taken or passed on to anyone else.

Documents

Have you already received the invitation to take the test? Then these are the points for you! Do not forget to bring your ID with you, which shows your real name and surname. It could be a driver’s permit or a passport. They should contain a valid photograph issued by a state or federal regulator.

Other items

Besides the documentation, you also will need some items while taking the examination. Thus, do not forget to bring with you:

• pen and pencil;
• eraser;
• battery-operated calculator;
• magnifying glass;
• architects’ scale or rule;
• foreign language dictionaries (if you need).

Summary of the Results

If you take the written test, you will be notified of the results within about a month. You will receive an email with a summary of the results. In addition, the answers can be found on the website of the Code Council.

Though, if your exam was conducted on a computer, you do not have to wait long. You are able to know your answer as soon as you finish.

Renewal

You must renew your VT plumbing license every two years. If the expiration date comes, you have 90 days to renew it with an appropriate renewal fee.

However, if you have missed those days, the process may be a little bit slower. You should show evidence of the fulfillment of 8 hours of continuing education or training. Keep in mind that the Board must have approved it and the completion should be done within the previous 2 years.
